Discover Ct Bistro Viet & Thai

Walking into Ct Bistro Viet & Thai for the first time, I was struck by how quickly it felt like a neighborhood spot rather than just another place to eat. Located at 13595 NW Cornell Rd, Portland, OR 97229, United States, this bistro sits comfortably in the northwest Portland area, easy to reach whether you’re coming from Beaverton or deeper inside the city. I stopped by on a rainy weekday evening, and within minutes the dining room filled with families, couples, and solo diners clearly familiar with the menu and the staff.

What stands out immediately is the balance between Vietnamese and Thai cooking styles. Instead of overwhelming you with pages of options, the menu feels curated and practical. From experience, that usually signals a kitchen that knows exactly what it wants to do. I ordered pho with brisket and a classic Thai basil stir-fry, a combination I’ve used for years to gauge consistency in Southeast Asian restaurants. The pho broth arrived steaming, clear, and deeply aromatic. According to culinary research shared by the Culinary Institute of America, a properly simmered pho broth requires at least six hours to extract collagen and flavor from bones, and the depth here reflected that process. It wasn’t salty or heavy, just clean and comforting.

The Thai dishes show the same level of attention. The basil stir-fry came out sizzling, with fresh herbs added at the very end, a method commonly recommended by chefs trained in Thai cuisine to preserve aroma and texture. The balance of heat, sweetness, and savory notes felt intentional rather than accidental. If you’ve ever read reviews complaining that Thai food can feel one-dimensional, this is the opposite experience. One regular at the next table leaned over and said this is our go-to comfort food place, which matched my impression perfectly.

Service plays a big role in why this bistro earns such positive reviews online. The staff checked in just enough to be helpful without hovering. When I asked about spice levels, the server explained how the kitchen adjusts heat dish by dish instead of relying on generic chili oil. That kind of transparency builds trust, especially for diners who care about authenticity or dietary preferences. According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants that prioritize clear communication with guests see higher repeat visit rates, and it shows here.

The location itself adds to the appeal. Being on NW Cornell Road means there’s ample parking, which isn’t always guaranteed in Portland. For locals, that matters more than fancy décor. The dining room is simple, clean, and relaxed, letting the food do the talking. I noticed several takeout orders going out the door, and the packaging held up well, something many diners mention in reviews when ordering pho or curry to-go.

There are limitations worth noting. During peak hours, wait times can stretch a bit, and the dining space isn’t huge. Still, that feels like a fair trade-off for food prepared with care rather than rushed assembly. The menu doesn’t chase trends, and you won’t find experimental fusion dishes. Instead, it focuses on getting the fundamentals right, which aligns with guidance from food scholars who emphasize consistency as the cornerstone of successful neighborhood restaurants.

For anyone exploring Vietnamese and Thai food in Portland, this spot earns its reputation through steady quality, friendly service, and thoughtful cooking methods. It’s the kind of place you return to not because it’s flashy, but because every visit feels reliably satisfying, and that’s often the highest compliment a restaurant can earn.

  • Mouth-watering cuisine! This is my go-to place for Vietnamese or Thai food in SW Portland. I've really enjoyed their pho and vermicelli bowls, along with their drunken noodles and Thai curries (which are awesome!) They even have chicken wings on the menu that are just so good! The employees here are incredibly nice. Such a great spot to grab some grub!

  • The food was delicious. We loved the garlicky greens with beef. The Pho and mango mousse cake were great.

  • 1st time having Viet & Thai. Cute little place and the customer service was great. The plate taste fresh. Veggies were nice and crisp. I enjoyed my plate but if/when I return, I will definitely have a different choice. Lighting was very dim, I apologize for the poorish pics.

  • We tried a selection of their foods ranging their menu today from traditional Thai and Viet and some of their American stuff. I will say all of the food was excellent spot on. I would put this up against my favorite restaurants on the east side.

  • We went here for our daughter’s birthday. They were absolutely fantastic. The service ended up being a little slow and he went above and beyond in making sure that we were taken care of! We will absolutely be back great food 1000% recommend! Excuse the photos I was hungry.

  • We had the S1 Pho Bo. Soup is rich, flavorful, and delicious. The beef was a little dry but the rest were good. We added the tripe and tendon as well. The place is always a bit too dark for me (photo is a lot brighter than IRL).

  • Looking for delicious Vietnamese food? Check. Delicious Thai Food? Check. Little bit of American? Sure! This place has it all. The owner, Kent, is very friendly and welcoming. If you have to wait a little bit to be seated, to get your order taken, please be patient; it comes with the territory of having a slight skeleton crew, but the wait will be worth it I promise. The to-go orders speak for themselves. Waves and waves of people come in. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!
